In advance of the new academic year, the University is releasing a series of scholarships available to international students hoping to either continue their studies with University College Birmingham, or to study with us for the first time.
The range includes awards for environmental consciousness, for furthering women’s representation in leadership roles, and for consistent academic excellence.
The Women in Leadership Scholarship has been launched with the aim of empowering future female leaders, and is designed to support and celebrate international female students who are passionate about making a difference and leading change in their communities and professions.
As the University is fully committed to the promotion of sustainable practices across campus, our Sustainable Development Scholarship has been developed specifically for those students who have demonstrated a strong commitment to sustainability in their previous work or academic studies. Successful applicants must regularly report on how sustainability continues to inform their academic work throughout their period of study, and may be asked to contribute to sustainability initiatives across the University.
Both of these scholarships represent a 25% discount on the value of tuition fees, and are available to applicants with overseas fee-status, who have achieved a minimum of a 2:1 in their undergraduate degrees (or the international equivalent), and received an offer to begin their first year of a full-time postgraduate course with us in September 2025.
The link to apply for the Women in Leadership Scholarship can be found here, and Sustainable Development Scholarship here. Applications both require a personal statement to be written by the candidate. Applications for the Women in Leadership Scholarship must be received by 30 June 2025, and the Sustainable Development Scholarship by 31 May 2025.
We are also presenting £2000 to all international students returning to an undergraduate course at the University for their second or third year. From 2025-2026, The Continuation Scholarship will apply to all full-time students with overseas fee-status, completing their course in person, rather than by distance learning, and will be applied on enrolment to the next stage of their course.
Relatedly, the Alumni Scholarship replaces the Undergraduate to Postgraduate Waiver, and is available to students with overseas fee-status who are progressing from an international foundation diploma to an undergraduate degree, or undergraduate to postgraduate course, in their first year of study. The Scholarship is worth 25% of the course fee for those who achieved a 1st class honours degree (or diploma equivalent), and 20% of the fee for all other applicants.
Finally, the prestigious Dean’s Award and Vice Chancellor’s Award aim to recognise and support outstanding international students who demonstrate academic excellence, strong leadership qualities, and a commitment to the creation of a better society. The Dean’s Award presents applicants with a 50% reduction in fees, whilst the Vice Chancellor’s Award is for the entire value of the applicant’s tuition fee.
In order to be eligible, a candidate must have overseas fee-status, and received an offer to study their first year of a full-time undergraduate or postgraduate course with the University, starting in September 2025. They must also have achieved a minimum of 144 UCAS points (or international equivalent) for undergraduate courses, or a 1st class honours degree (or international equivalent) for postgraduate.
The link to apply for the Vice Chancellor’s Award can be found here, and applications must be received by 31 March 2025.
The Dean’s Award application can be found here and must be received by 30 April 2025.
Both scholarships require a personal statement to be written by the candidate.
