I have always been interested in language, so I took a degree in Spanish at the University of Exeter, during which I spent 9 months living in the north of Spain. I enjoyed it so much that I went back to Spain for another year after I finished my degree, and it was there that my teaching career started.
At first I was a teacher of English to Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL), but since returning to the UK in 2000 I have taught not only ESOL, but also Spanish and Academic Skills in a variety of settings, as well as training others to become ESOL teachers, and managing a number of ESOL schools and departments.
As an Academic Development Tutor here at University College Birmingham, I am able to bring all of my experience to bear in ensuring that the students I work with receive the most useful and effective support possible.
