Missed the UCAS deadline?

Explore your options

Considering going to uni, but missed the UCAS January deadline?

Don’t worry. We are still taking applications through UCAS for September 2026 entry – and you can also apply directly to us!

There are many reasons why you might not have applied yet. Perhaps you've been uncertain about your next steps, or you've only just decided that this is the right path for you. Maybe you've been exploring other opportunities, taking time to carefully consider your options, or you've changed your mind about what you want to study. Whatever the reason, your journey is unique, and it’s never too late to take the next step toward your future.

Applying direct

If you want to study at University College Birmingham and nowhere else, you don’t even need to apply through UCAS. You can apply directly to us today!

If we are your only potential choice, you simply need to fill in our direct application form. It’s free to apply and you don’t have to complete lengthy, and sometimes complex, UCAS forms.

To apply direct, you must also have not previously applied via UCAS this year (we will complete this on your behalf).

Applying through UCAS

If you would like to apply to University College Birmingham via UCAS you can do so right up until Tuesday 30 June 2026.

You should keep in mind that while applications received by UCAS after the January 2026 main deadline won’t receive ‘equal consideration,’ your application will be considered alongside others.

If you've used all five choices, and you're not holding any offers, you can add another choice using Extra.

What happens if I miss the 30 June deadline?

There's still no need to panic. Here are the ways you can submit your application.

Apply through Clearing

If you've missed the 30 June deadline, there's still chance to apply through Clearing. Clearing is a service provided by UCAS that enables universities to fill any places they still have left on their courses in the final few months before the new academic year starts.

Clearing opens on 2 July 2026 and ends mid-October 2026 and is your additional opportunity to secure a place on a September 2026 university course.

If you want to apply to a university after this point, you will need to contact your chosen universities directly to see if they have any spots available and what their late application procedure is.

Register for Clearing

Register now to receive key dates, course availability updates and advice before Clearing opens.

UCAS Extra

If you've used all five choices on your application, and you're not holding any offers, you could still find a place using Extra - a free service for applicants who have not received any offers, or have received their offers, but do not wish to accept them.

The courses available through UCAS Extra will be confirmed by the universities and the service will be available from February until July.

Frequently asked questions (FAQs)

Can I still apply to university if I missed the UCAS deadline?

Yes. Missing the main UCAS deadline does not mean you have missed your chance to go to university. You can still apply through UCAS after the deadline, apply through UCAS Extra (if eligible), or use Clearing later in the cycle.

Can I apply directly to UCB?

Yes. If you only want to apply to University College Birmingham, you may be able to apply directly instead of through UCAS. Direct applications are free and can be quicker and simpler than completing a UCAS application. However, you must not already have submitted a UCAS application for that year, as UCB will process this on your behalf.

What happens after 30 June 2026?

Applications submitted after 30 June 2026 are automatically entered into Clearing. Clearing opens on 2 July 2026 and allows students to apply for courses with available places. You can still apply through UCAS or directly to UCB during Clearing if spaces are available.

What is UCAS Extra?

UCAS Extra is a free service that gives you another opportunity to apply for a university place if you have already used all five UCAS choices and are not holding any offers. It allows you to add one extra choice at a time between 26 February and 1 July 2026.

Do I need to wait until Results Day to prepare for Clearing?

No. It is a good idea to prepare for Clearing before Results Day so you can act quickly and confidently if needed. Research courses you are interested in, make a shortlist, check entry requirements and have your personal statement, grades and contact details ready in advance.

Can a parent, carer or supporter help me with Clearing?

Yes. Parents, carers and supporters can help you research courses, compare options, prepare questions and support you on Results Day. However, universities will usually need to speak directly to the applicant before making an offer, so it is important that you are available to confirm your choices and discuss your application.

If you need any help with your UCAS application or applying direct, call us on 0121 604 1040 or email admissions@ucb.ac.uk to speak with a member of our Admissions team.
