Childhood and Education Studies BA (Hons) Top-up (Online)
Realising a dream
Lucy was enjoying her work as a learning support teacher at an international school in Shanghai, but to realise her dream of working in student mentorship and counselling, she needed to complete her undergraduate degree.
When searching for the right top-up course, University College Birmingham stood out for its rigour and flexibility.
“UCB recognised the strength of my prior academic qualifications and the value of in-class experience, and provided the ideal, flexible pathway to build upon this and formally qualify as an educator,” she said.
“This course was the clear choice for my career pivoting into childhood education.”
While Lucy thrived on the course, with the chance to work alongside other lecturers and students passionate about children’s development, studying remotely had its challenges:
“The time difference was challenging for live interaction, but the University effectively mitigated this by providing an extensive library of recorded lectures and digital resources. I had the flexibility to access course materials at any time, ensuring I never fell behind,” she said.
“I was also fortunate to be taught by passionate, student-focused lecturers for whom distance was no barrier to providing outstanding, personalised support. The opportunity to learn from and interact with a diverse, global community of educators was incredibly enriching.”
“I feel my experiences on the course have helped me on the way to achieve my ambitions – to become a trusted resource providing a safe space for students to navigate emotional, personal and academic challenges. I’d love to be able to continue my journey through UCB!”
