Jemin Sorathiya

Aviation Management MSc

Seeing ambition take flight

Jemin’s undergraduate journey led him to study for a degree in physics, but his childhood love of aviation stayed with him as he made the decision to forge a career in the field.

With lofty ambitions in mind, he secured a role as a sales executive with Bird Travel (GSA- Vietjet Air & Jazeera Airways), and held responsibility for the Gujarat market. His next goal was to break into a management role

“I realised that to stand out in the global aviation market and progress into management-level roles, I needed advanced academic knowledge combined with international exposure,” he said.

“University College Birmingham appealed to me due to its strong industry focus, practical learning approach and specialised programme, which closely aligns with my long-term career goals.”

After enrolling on the degree, Jemin was struck by the module structure and teaching aligned closely with his prior industry experience

“They’ve helped me develop a clearer strategic vision of airline operations, market analysis, and leadership. The knowledge gained from these modules has been extremely valuable in strengthening my understanding of commercial aviation,” he said.

During his studies, Jemin also had the opportunity gain exposure to the UK airline industry through a number of events and even visit airports in Albania. He has also been impressed with the scale and quality of student support.

“There are dedicated teams and supportive teaching staff available to guide students academically, professionally and personally, which has been especially important to me as an international student,“ he said.

“In addition, a UK degree is globally recognised, and studying at UCB has given me confidence that the skills and knowledge I am gaining will be valued internationally and prepare me well for the next stage of my career in the global aviation industry.”
