Hassan Jahangir

Cyber Security BSc (Hons)/FdSc

Cracking the cyber threats

Hassan chose to study cyber security as he wanted a career he actually enjoyed and that would keep him on his toes.

"I’ve always been interested in cybersecurity and love that the field is constantly changing," he said. "It means there is always something new to learn and stay challenged by."

Hassan, an international student from Pakistan, chose the degree course at University College Birmingham for its focus on practical, industry-aligned skills.

"There are lots of opportunities here and I’m learning tools that are actually relevant to the current threat landscape," said Hassan, who was part of a team that made the 2026 regional finals of the Cyber Leaders Challenge, a national competition for university students which saw him have to present strategic recommendations to a tough judging panel.

"I really like that the course is so practical and we work on real-world projects that show how the industry actually works today.

"The best bit about studying in Birmingham is that it's a great city for opportunities. There is a lot going on, which gives me a great chance to find work and meet people in the industry once I graduate.
