Daniel Marina
Gaining experience across the world
From a young age sports-mad Daniel wanted to join the Royal Marines, but after deciding the direct route might not necessarily be the best, he embarked on a journey that’s taken him to the USA and back.
“I had a great feeling about the course at University College Birmingham from the moment I arrived,” he said.
“The city seemed to have it all and the facilities were incredible.”
Placements have been a highlight for Daniel, and one stands out above all others: an occupational therapy clinic in Houston, Texas, where he was able to work in an environment he’d never before dreamed of:
“The clinic worked in partnership with a local hospital, so I got to see so much, from pre-operative to post-operative care," he said.
"To sit in on a hip replacement surgery was an incredible experience.”
Once he finishes his degree, Daniel still hopes to join the marines and is hoping his studies will prove a decisive advantage: “There are so many therapeutic opportunities in the service, from sports to injury rehab. As a graduate I’m already eligible to join as an officer,” he said.
“I feel like this degree has already widened the career opportunities available to me.”
