Reported student support

Support for students who have been reported

If you’ve been reported or accused of sexual misconduct, harassment, stalking, spiking, or domestic abuse -whether the incident took place within UCB or outside of it, recently or in the past - you may be feeling overwhelmed, isolated, or uncertain about what happens next.

University College Birmingham offers a confidential support service to help you navigate this experience. You can email us directly at studentcases@ucb.ac.uk to access support.

Alternatively, a tutor or trusted university staff member can refer you to the service if they are aware of your situation.

Who we support

This service is available to any UCB student who:

  • Has been formally or informally reported for sexual violence, harassment, relationship abuse, spiking, or similar behaviours.
  • Has been accused in university, police, or other external settings.
  • Is aware or unaware of specific allegations made against them.
  • Is seeking support in understanding their behaviour or addressing concerns raised by others.

You do not need to have a formal complaint or investigation underway to access support.

What we offer

All students who contact the service will be offered a one-to-one appointment with a dedicated adviser. This experienced professional will provide tailored, confidential, and compassionate support based on your needs, without pressure to share any details unless you feel comfortable.

Support may include:

  • A safe, non-judgemental space to talk through your thoughts and feelings.
  • Emotional and wellbeing support.
  • Information about UCB policies, disciplinary processes, and what to expect from a formal complaint.
  • Guidance on navigating university and external procedures, including potential police investigations.
  • Referrals to relevant specialist services for additional support.
  • Academic support advice.
  • Help managing the social and personal impact of being reported.

Confidentiality

The service operates independently and confidentially within UCB’s student support framework. Information you share with your caseworker will not be shared with your department, tutors, family, or the police without your explicit consent.

However, there may be rare situations where information must be disclosed without consent - such as where there is a serious risk of harm to you or others, or where legally required to do so.

How to access support

To make an appointment (online or in person), you can:

There is no need to share details of what happened in your initial contact -we just need to know you’d like support.
