Affordable eatery in the heart of the community

Bluebell Wood is an informal, affordable eatery based in the heart of the community at Chelmsley Wood Shopping Centre. It was officially opened on Friday 5 December 2025.

Next door is Chelmsley Starters; this purpose-built culinary school is where students begin their training in food preparation and service – preparing the Bluebell Wood menu in a professional kitchen environment, for front-of-house presentation to the customers.

Owned and managed by the renowned College of Food at University College Birmingham, the name ‘Bluebell Wood’ is a nod to the delicate blue flowers that once decorated the wood that stood on the site of the shopping centre and surrounding estates.

Monday to Friday 9.30am - 3pm

Please note: Bluebell Wood may also close in line with academic term breaks and bank holidays. The site may also be open at weekends and for private events.

Pop in and see what’s on offer!

As well as featuring vegetarian and vegan options, the menu offers a variety of dishes that aims to offer something for everyone.

For the hungry, there are firm favourites such as:

fish ‘n’ chips
cooked breakfasts
Bostin’ Burger

The street food menu and ‘soup and sandwich’ deal will suit those looking for a lighter bite.

If you fancy a quick cuppa and a catch-up, we serve hot and cold drinks with a tempting selection of cakes to try.

And we don’t forget the little ones! The kids’ menu (served 10am-3pm) serves up smaller portions of many of the main menu dishes.

Currently, Bluebell Wood is only taking queries on an in-person basis during opening hours. However, customers are welcome drop in to pre-order food for collection, order food to take away, make a table booking or ask about private hire.

The hands-on learning style at our culinary school with expert teaching and support develops students’ knowledge, skills and confidence, every step of the way. Their knowledge and skills improve, and their kitchen confidence gets a boost too. There are two full-time courses available, and the training costs nothing for eligible students.
