Hospitality gurus give masterclass at UCB
Big hitters from the hospitality industry, who between them have built-up more than five decades of industry experience, shared the secrets of their success with UCB students.
Bev King, Nicholas Chalmers and Lisa Redding made a formidable panel when they answered questions from undergraduates on UCB’s Hospitality Business Management degree course.
Bev King, who launched Z Hotels in November 2011, inspired students when he revealed the company now has an annual turnover of £30m.
Nicholas Chalmers described how his career had propelled him to top positions at some of the country’s most prestigious hotels, including Conrad London St James, Grosvenor House and Jumeriah Carlton Tower.
And high flyer Lisa Redding gave an insight into how she had swiftly risen to the top of her game as group resourcing manager for QHotels, one of the Midlands’ most successful hotel chains.
Lecturer Ankur Ahuja was delighted more than 100 students attended the session, which was designed to boost their employability skills.
First year student Arvinder Sandhu, from Canada, said he felt inspired to pursue his dream of setting up a restaurant chain. He added: “It was great to hear about their life experiences and how they got to where they are today. It was particularly inspiring to hear from Bev King who already had a successful career in the industry when he decided to set up Z Hotels.”
A recording of the session is available from Ankur Ahuja.
