Towards a future in healthcare

Lavanya’s interest in healthcare stretches back to childhood, when she decided that a future career in nursing was her goal – and she’s held firm in this decision ever since.

“When I looked at options for sixth form, I definitely had a nursing degree in mind,” she said.

“UCB really intrigued me because I was able to explore a range of A-level subjects but also opportunities and activities available that you might not necessarily have in other colleges.”

For Lavanya, those opportunities have related to her future career goals, but have also allowed her chances for enrichment she hadn’t dreamed of.

“Being linked to a university with a lot of healthcare-related degrees available is great. The thread runs through college to university, and there are passionate staff with real-world experience working with fantastic facilities on campus,” she said.

“I was also lucky enough to go on the trip to Singapore, and as a member of the student planning committee I’m helping to organise prom for the end of the year.”

With plans to stay in Birmingham to study nursing, Lavanya is focused on her final exams – with one eye on the party afterwards.

“I’m just really looking forward to making sure everyone has a great time after they’ve worked so hard.”
