Finance and Accounting BSc (Hons)
Discovering a home away from home
Growing up in Nepal, Luisa was always fascinated by the way finance and accounting shapes businesses and economies. After finishing school, she decided she wanted to explore these interests alongside new cultures, and study for a degree abroad:
“Numbers tell stories, and I wanted to be able to interpret those stories to help organisations make better decisions,” she said.
“I was immediately drawn to the course offered at University College Birmingham. It had the perfect balance between theory and practice. The lecturers didn’t just teach concepts; they ensured we could apply them in real-life scenarios.”
The opportunity to experience the world of work on placement was another draw for Luisa, and she relished the chance to put her knowledge to the test:
“Hands-on exposure to accounting practices, client handling, and teamwork gave me confidence, sharpened my technical knowledge, and helped me grow both personally and professionally. I can confidently say my it was one of the highlights of my time at UCB."
Luisa’s abiding memories of her time here are overwhelmingly positive – and she happily considers Birmingham her home.
“Beyond academics, it felt like a family. The support services for international students were outstanding, and I always felt included and encouraged. As for Birmingham, it became my second home - a welcoming, multicultural city full of opportunities, culture, and growth.”
