Counting on a career abroad

Maths has been Alfie’s passion since he was at school, and with a keen interest in business honed through his T-level choices, he knew a finance and accounting degree was the perfect way to combine his interests with the ideal career.

“I knew I wanted to study locally but besides that I just felt a bit lost in the process,” he said.

Alfie decided to call University College Birmingham during Clearing and instantly realised he’d made the right decision:

“First impressions mean a lot to me, and I was immediately made to feel comfortable by the course leaders and the Clearing staff. That experience played a big part in my decision to join UCB.”

During his studies, Alfie has been able to take advantage of the University’s industry connections with access to a host of guest speakers, lectures and workshops, and hopes to secure an international placement through the Hired team:

“We’ve heard from major international financial institutions like Handelsbanken. They’ve helped me understand the expectations of employers and the different career paths available in the sector, while giving valuable insights into what working in finance really looks like beyond the classroom.”

“I have dreams of working in Germany, so to secure an international work placement would be incredible.”
