"With over 17 years in senior management in the arts and media sector, I deliver authentic, industry-informed learning that bridges theory and practice. I aim to prepare students for the unpredictable landscape of entrepreneurship by sharing real-world scenarios."

I’m passionate about empowering the next generation of entrepreneurs through creativity, critical thinking, and hands-on experience. My path into academia was shaped by over 17 years in senior management within the arts and media sector, where I led the development of ambitious new ventures and managed multi-million-pound, European-funded programmes supporting the creative industries across the West Midlands.
Throughout my career, I have been closely involved in founding innovative projects and securing essential seed and start-up funding. These experiences gave me a deep understanding of the practical realities and challenges that creative entrepreneurs face, leading to the realisation that my strengths lie in supporting and guiding others to launch their own businesses. I then moved into academia, where I now specialise in entrepreneurship education, venture creation, creativity, and design thinking.

My professional journey informs every aspect of my teaching, allowing me to deliver authentic, industry-informed learning that bridges theory and practice. By sharing real-world scenarios, I aim to prepare students for the unpredictable landscape of entrepreneurship. My consultancy background enables me to personalise advice for each venture. Students appreciate the practical wisdom and critical problem-solving tools I share, along with our active, “learning by doing” classroom culture.
I’ve published a wide range of papers on entrepreneurship, and I’m a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (SFHEA), a mentor accredited by SFEDI (Small Firms Enterprise Development Initiative), and a Certified Business Management Educator (CMBE).
I’m continually inspired by helping students discover their strengths and supporting them as they forge their own paths in business. One myth I like to challenge is that entrepreneurs are motivated solely by money - it’s simply not true!
Personally, I’m most proud of my own educational journey - from leaving school with no qualifications to earning a first-class degree, and ultimately a doctorate from the University of Warwick. I encourage my students to immerse themselves in their studies, take some risks, and see where their curiosity takes them.
Beyond the classroom, I’m a keen musician - I perform professionally on the five-string banjo and guitar, and I enjoy watching films, visiting art galleries, and travelling. I also enjoy football, regularly playing 5-a-side.
