I’m a carpentry specialist with 31 years of hands-on experience in the construction trade, both as a skilled tradesperson and an employer in the industry. Now, I teach carpentry on further education (FE) courses here at UCB, where I really enjoy passing on practical skills to my students.

What inspires me most is finding fresh ways to teach carpentry skills, blending different methods to suit different learning styles. It’s really rewarding to see my students go from unsure beginners to producing work they’re genuinely proud of, and it gives me a huge sense of achievement to know that several of my past students have landed solid careers in the trade. I also love seeing the high quality of work my students achieve - it’s what made me want to teach after decades working in the industry.

Students tell me they enjoy my classes because I’m firm but fair. They say that they leave my sessions with practical knowledge and boosted confidence. Advice I always give to new students is to pay attention in class and take good notes.

Outside of work, I’m currently learning French and Spanish.
