"I’m most proud of the three winters I spent at ski resorts in France, first as a Hotel Manager and later as an Area Manager for Esprit, Ski Total, and Inghams, where I managed large teams in challenging conditions."

With a career in hospitality that began when I was 16, I hold Associate status with the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD) and hold expertise in food and beverage skills, human resources, and leading across cultures. I kickstarted my educational journey at Oxford Brookes University, where I earned a degree in International Hospitality Management and completed a formative placement year at the Paris Marriott.

Following graduation, my professional journey took me through a succession of management roles: Restaurant Manager for Conran Restaurants and Marriott Hotels in Birmingham, then Food and Beverage Manager for Malmaison in Oxford. I also spent three winters at ski resorts in France, first as a Hotel Manager and later as an Area Manager overseeing operations and managing large teams for Esprit, Ski Total, and Inghams. These experiences developed not only my operational expertise but also my leadership skills in dynamic, multicultural settings. I’m most proud of the years I spent working in the Alps, managing teams in challenging conditions.

Returning to the UK in 2012, I pursued my teaching qualification at Birmingham City University with a local teaching placement in Birmingham. Since joining UCB as a Food Service Lecturer, I have contributed across the College of Food and the Business School at both Further Education (FE) and Higher Education (HE) levels. My ten years at UCB stand as a testament to my passion and commitment to inspiring, motivating, and developing the next generation of hospitality leaders.

I’m known for my engaging, enthusiastic, and passionate teaching style, which students consistently value. I take pride in creating relatable, practical learning experiences and was honoured with the ‘Spotlight on Great Teaching Award’ in 2020 and a nomination in 2022.

I encourage my students to read widely, work hard, and always bring their unique personality to the table. Go on placements whenever possible, and never underestimate the importance of becoming an independent learner, mastering academic skills, and seizing every opportunity to grow. The hospitality industry offers outstanding opportunities worldwide for those who earn them.
