"I've loved every minute of teaching Events Management at UCB since joining in 2008 – it's a far cry from preparing Disney Cruise Line's 'Disney Wonder' for her first voyage, but just as rewarding!"

I discovered the world of hospitality and events through my first ever job, working part-time in a local hotel in their Food and Beverage team. It was an experience that sparked a lifelong passion for the industry, inspiring me to study Hotel and Tourism Management at Sheffield Hallam University. While studying, I was lucky enough to complete a placement at Walt Disney World in Florida; and after graduating, I joined the opening crew for Disney Cruise Line’s ‘Disney Wonder’, helping to prepare the ship for her first voyage.

Back in the UK, my career took me from London’s hospitality scene to roles in Marketing and Events with companies such as Severn Trent Water International. I was responsible for coordinating everything from international tours to large-scale events at visitor centres, and each experience helped shape my understanding of what makes events truly memorable. I’ve also volunteered at amazing events such as ‘Velo Birmingham’, the ‘Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games’, and events at Warwick Castle.

Back in 2008, I joined UCB as a Lecturer in Events Management, and I’ve loved every minute since. I teach courses such as Events Management, International Events Management, Live Events Creation and Development, Mega Events, and Event Crisis Strategy. I have a CIM Diploma in Tourism Marketing, CIM Professional Diploma in Marketing, and NEBOSH (2005) Level 3 Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety. I’ve also published a number of books and papers about the events industry. I’m eternally passionate about sharing my vast and varied industry experience with students and bringing in guest speakers to keep our work fresh and relevant.

One thing I always tell my students is that Events Management isn’t all glamorous parties and 9-5 hours! It’s hard work, long days, and lots of planning. However, the end result and seeing smiling, happy faces makes it all worthwhile.

Outside of work, I love cooking, gardening, planning home projects, and spending time with friends and family. I also enjoy watching TV shows such as Race Across the World. Fun fact: as a child, I auditioned for The Sound of Music on London’s West End.
