"I believe strongly in the power of play and actually I think it should continue beyond KS1 - it’s essential for child development."

My students know me as Jen and I specialise in early years education. My expertise centres on play-based learning for brain development, early mathematics and literacy, supporting pupils with Special Educational Needs (SEN) and Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, and trauma-informed practice. I teach on our Education and Early Years FE course.
I bring extensive experience as a reception teacher and Early Years Lead, leading on phonics programmes across multiple schools, staff training on the EYFS framework, and alternative provision for excluded pupils. One of my proudest professional moments came from helping excluded pupils achieve their GCSEs in Religious Education. My students benefit from me sharing my hands-on experience in structured planning, adaptive teaching, and practical strategies for diverse needs.
I believe strongly in the power of play and think it should continue beyond KS1 - it’s essential for child development. I’m also passionate about brain science.
I encourage all of my students to take the time to appreciate every moment they share with children on placement - that’s the most rewarding and meaningful part of the job.
In my spare time, I enjoy going to the gym, playing Fantasy Football, and listening to The Rest is Football podcast. My motto for life is “Just Do It”.
