MA Marketing, BSC(Hons) Economics, PGCE, Certified Digital Marketing Professional

"My research has been widely recognised, with publications in leading journals, multiple conference papers, and awards such as the Highly Commended Award by Emerald Literati and Best Paper prizes at the Global Islamic Marketing Conference."

I’m a Marketing lecturer with a strong passion for International Marketing, Consumer Behaviour, Digital Marketing and Marketing Research. Having grown up in three very different countries (Qatar, Pakistan and Malaysia), before moving to the UK, I bring a unique global perspective that informs my teaching and research. These experiences have fuelled my particular interest in International Marketing, Asian brands, Halal/Islamic marketing, and tourism, and Muslim consumer behaviour, areas in which I have developed an international research profile.

My teaching is informed by more than 20 years of academic experience, award-winning research, and professional practice. My industry background includes roles in the hospitality and technology sectors, from marketing loyalty programmes at the five-star Sunway Lagoon Resort Hotel in Malaysia, to sales support and research in a tech start-up in Malaysia. I have also collaborated with leading organisations such as John Lewis and The Prince’s Trust in order to stay updated on industry practices, and I’ve worked with a wide range of businesses on student projects.

My research has been widely recognised, with publications in leading journals, multiple conference papers, and awards such as the Highly Commended Award by Emerald Literati and Best Paper prizes at the Global Islamic Marketing Conference, including for recent work on ‘Navigating Consumer Boycotts’ during the war in Gaza. I have also been featured as an expert in the Geographical Magazine and NRK, and I contribute to the discipline through peer reviewing and external examining.

Students consistently say that they enjoy my engaging teaching style, in-depth knowledge, and the diverse range of examples and case studies I bring to class. I strongly believe that Marketing begins with a thorough understanding of consumers and contexts; without this foundation, even the most creative digital and social media strategies lose their effectiveness.

Outside academia, I enjoy travelling, exploring cultural trends through Turkish, Pakistani, and Korean dramas - with the occasional anime -and keeping up with digital platforms like TikTok. A fun fact about me: I learned Taekwondo during my time at university.
