MSc Hotel Management

"I’ve worked in hotel and restaurant management, leading teams in fast-paced, customer-focused environments. These experiences gave me a clear insight into how HR shapes service quality, leadership, and business success and allow me to share practical examples in class."

I teach across a range of Higher Education courses, specialising in strategic human resource management (HRM) and people development. My teaching draws on key areas such as talent management, organisational development and HR technology, and exploring how strategic HR leadership supports business transformation.

Before joining UCB, I worked in hotel and restaurant management, leading teams and managing operations in dynamic, customer-focused settings. This experience gave me a deep appreciation of how HR influences service quality, leadership effectiveness, and overall business performance. It also informs the practical dimension of my teaching, as when we discuss HR strategy or change management in class, I’m able to share real-world examples to bring the theory to life. I’m also well-positioned to advise on current trends, career pathways, and professional expectations. Ultimately, I want my students to leave UCB not only with a qualification but with the confidence and capability to thrive in the sector.

In today’s workplace, HR has the power to shape meaningful, lasting change in people’s working lives. The field is about so much more than just policies and procedures; it’s about creating cultures where people can thrive, innovate, and feel genuinely valued. It’s a lever for transformation - not simply a support service. I’m also inspired by the strategic impact HR can have when it’s aligned with business goals. Whether it’s leading organisational change, championing diversity and inclusion, or using people analytics to drive smarter decisions, I find it incredibly rewarding to help organisations grow through their people. My CIPD Level 7 Advanced Diploma in Strategic People Management qualification has deepened my understanding of these dynamics and given me the tools to lead with both empathy and evidence.

In the classroom, I aim to foster curiosity, confidence and independence. My sessions are interactive, discussion-led, and focused on bridging theory with practice. I make space for reflection, feedback and support as I believe that learning happens through connection.

My favourite moments in class are when a student achieves a breakthrough - whether in understanding a complex model or securing a placement. I also place strong emphasis on the interpersonal skills and adaptability that are vital in hospitality, and I encourage students to develop these alongside their technical knowledge. I take pride in helping others grow, because their success is the most meaningful measure of mine.

Outside of work, I love to sing. I regularly perform with a Rock Choir and have even recorded at Abbey Road Studios! I also enjoy gardening, cooking, sewing and listening to industry-related podcasts. I can highly recommend ‘Recruiting Future’ by Matt Alder. It explores the future of talent acquisition, HR strategy, and workplace innovation from a UK perspective.
