UCB Theatrical & Media Make-Up lecturer Gemma Richmond is a finalist in the Professional Beauty Awards 2015 for Make-Up Specialist of the Year.

The Professional Beauty Awards is the most prestigious and established awards scheme for the beauty, spa, nails and aesthetics markets, recognising those who make a real difference to the industry.

In order to be selected, Gemma had to provide supporting qualifications and photographic evidence, as well as information on her past competition success (including her win at the National Make-Up Artists Awards earlier this year). She also had to include a written explanation of how to ensure a high standard of application, hygiene and client care within the industry and outline how she ensures the success of her freelance make-up career.

"It's very exciting to be selected as one of the six finalists in this category," said Gemma. "I always encourage my students to enter competitions and I use my own personal experience to help guide them through the process so that they can prepare for future successes."

The judges are looking for fantastic artistic and creative talent, business acumen in building and retaining a client base and an understanding of how to use different make-up techniques for different occasions and clients. They are also looking for someone to act as an ambassador for the profession.

Ultimately the winner will be the make-up specialist that not only demonstrates all of the above but also provides a professional and top-quality service that makes them stand out from the competition.

On the 28th November Gemma will travel to London for the award finals, which will involve a themed trade test and an interview with the judging panel.

The winners of the Professional Beauty Awards 2015 will be announced on February 22nd at a glittering black-tie event in a top London venue.
