The results from the National Student Survey 2023 (NSS) have once again shown a positive upwards trend for student approval at University College Birmingham, with a 9 percentage point increase on overall satisfaction in comparison to last year.
University College Birmingham has an overall positivity measure of 84% across all questions, ranking 14th of all institutions with at least 500 responses in this year’s results.
The survey, which is entirely based on student feedback, is completed by nearly half a million students annually. This year 803 students from the University shared their thoughts.
Known for being an excellent barometer for student attitudes towards universities, receiving these results is an acknowledgment of the effort academic and supporting staff put into making the student experience as good as it can be.
University College Birmingham came in the top 50% of institutions nationally for all 7 key themes, and students shared particular praise for the communication of University College Birmingham’s mental wellbeing services where respondents gave an 8 percentage point higher than average score for satisfaction.
Professor Michael Harkin Vice-Chancellor and Principal said of the results,
“We’re delighted to hear that students are increasingly pleased with their experience at University College Birmingham, and that they are more satisfied with the University overall when compared with last year’s results.
"To hear that students rated us above sector average for teaching quality, learning, assessment and feedback, mental wellbeing support among others, inspires us to continue to deliver an all-round outstanding student experience.
"A huge thank you to all of our staff for their dedication and always putting the student first.”
Staff and students alike can feel pride in the results from this survey, and the year-on-year progress in achievement for the institution which is reflective of their efforts.
This follows on from the University’s recent award wins at the WhatUni student choice awards, where University College Birmingham came second in the Student Support category as well as receiving the top prize in the International category and the Silver award for University of the Year.
