Tutors to receive raft of benefits in new partnership with top professional body

Teaching staff for further education students at University College Birmingham are set to receive an array of professional development opportunities thanks to a new partnership with the Society for Education and Training (SET).

The University has become a corporate member of the top professional body, meaning tutors for its range of college courses will have access to exclusive content, training and teaching tools, research, webinars, events and discounts.

The corporate partnership between the University and SET – the only professional membership body dedicated to teachers and trainers working in further education – will see 150 teaching staff receive access to the support.

Nikki Brady, Executive Director of Academic Quality for Further Education, said: “We are delighted to join the Society for Education and Training as a Corporate Partner.

“Delivering high quality education to all students is our top priority, and we recognise the importance of investing in our staff and their professional development in order to achieve this.

“This partnership will enable us to utilise the extensive resources, CPD opportunities and professional networks provided by SET to ensure our staff are able to provide an innovative and engaging learning experience for all students.”

As SET members, teaching staff will have the opportunity to study for Qualified Teacher Learning and Skills (QTLS) and Advanced Teacher Status (ATS). SET is the only passport to achieving both QTLS and ATS.

They will also receive discounts on CPD courses run by the Education and Training Foundation (ETF) and access to SET’s online e-book library.

As part of the largest professional network of teachers and trainers in the further education sector, they will get to share expertise and experience with their peers and receive copies of inTuition, the leading journal for practitioners working across further education, vocational teaching and training.

They will also be entitled to use SET’s membership grade designations after their names – Associate member (ASET), Member (MSET) or Fellow member (FSET), depending on the level of their teaching qualifications.
