As it draws to a close, we reflect on an amazing year for all staff and students at our Departments of Health and Sport.
From seeing our students go out on placement or gain work experience at prestigious international events, to cementing our position as an excellent provider of health education, 2025 has brought a heap of success for staff and students alike.
Read on to see what's been happening in health at University College Birmingham.

Paramedic students on the front line
After a demanding and fulfilling first few months on our new Paramedic Science BSc (Hons) degree, students went out on their first placements with West Midlands Ambulance service.
Using the knowledge and skills acquired in a whirlwind first semester, the cohort worked alongside qualified paramedics dealing with real-life emergencies, gaining an early taste of what the role entails in the first of a series of placements over the course of their three-year degree.
Well done to all of you!

Health education future-proofed for the next 10 years
The year also saw University College Birmingham unveil its new teaching and learning strategy for health education, aligning our core values with the 'fit for the future' NHS 10-year plan.
With a strong focus on personalised learning, sustainability, collaboration and career-readiness, UCB is positioning itself at the forefront of educational innovation, supporting the West Midlands region's health and care needs for the next decade.

National recognition for nursing education at prestigious awards ceremony
We've picked up more awards for our healthcare education, winning Nurse Education Provider of the Year (pre-registration) at the Student Nursing Times Awards.
The accolade recognises the University's dedication to supporting students' personal growth and their ability to deliver person-centred, holistic care. Congratulations to our amazing teaching staff on this thoroughly deserved achievement!

Dietetics networking event allows students glimpse into professional life
Our student dietitians had a great opportunity to meet with and learn from experienced professionals over a networking lunch.
As part of Nutrition and Hydration Week, the Dietetics MSc students were able to quiz the group of registered dietitians on their experiences and career pathways in a relaxed environment.

Full professional accreditation for psychology degrees
Our psychology degrees have been given the seal of approval by the leading national body for the profession.
Accreditation by the British Psychological Society confirms that University College Birmingham has met the very highest standards for quality in psychology education and training, giving our students a clear route to chartered psychologist status after graduation.

Students support at London Marathon and Great Birmingham Run
Students in years 2 and 3 of the Sports Therapy BSc (Hons) course have worked on placement offering therapeutic support at two of the UK's biggest running events.
Across the course of their studies the students must undertake 200 hours of placement, and the Marathon has provided the chance for UCB students to showcase their skills for almost fifteen years.
They were joined at both events by first year students, on hand to see theory put into practice in a real-world clinical environment.
Well done to all of you for your fantastic work!
