We have the following internships available for postgraduate students starting September 2025

Business School Intern

Role:

The Business School Intern will support the Business School in the development and management of its external profile, and assist in other strategic projects.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Coordinate and develop the Business School LinkedIn profile, including working with colleagues to design and develop content, analyse performance metrics and collaborate with marketing colleagues to ensure brand identity
  • Support with the development of lecturer biographies to place on the website, and for promotional purposes
  • Work with business development colleagues to develop communications for industry connection, maintaining ongoing relationships and raising the profile of the Business School.
  • Undertake promotional activity on social media and via direct mail
  • Support with the marketing, promotion and recruitment of professional short courses, and undertake survey and analysis post-event

Skills and experience:

We are looking for someone who has: 

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Some previous experience working in an office environment
  • Some experience of social media
  • Ability to work well as a part of a team and individually
  • Good organisational skills
  • Experience using Microsoft packages
  • A creative mindset with an eye for engaging visual content

Data Analysis Intern

Role: 

The Data Analysis Intern will initially be responsible for a project analysing the generative use of AI and plagiarism on assignments, but will also support on other initiatives, according to business need.

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Clean and prepare data for analysis
  • Analyse and interpret data using a range of methods, including statistical analysis to identify trends
  • Compare and contrast findings with previous external and internal reports to identify inconsistencies or findings that buck the trend
  • Develop reports in a range of formats to suit the audience to outline findings
  • Protect data integrity and ensure findings are accurate

Key skills:

For this role, you will need to have:

  • Strong mathematical skills to help collect, measure, organise and analyse data
  • A good understanding of data analysis tools and databases
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (particularly Excel) and be familiar with statistical tools such as SPSS, Python or R
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Meticulous attention to detail

Equality, Diversity & Inclusion and Wellbeing Intern

Role:

The Equality, Diversity & Inclusion (EDI) and Wellbeing intern will support the EDI and HR teams in the delivery of activities and projects related to the EDI and wellbeing strategies. 

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Analyse staff data on gender, disability and ethnicity to identify trends and support fair policies
  • Prepare a pay report to ensure transparency and help address any disparities
  • Promote and advertise EDI events led by staff and students, increasing awareness and participation
  • Liaise with external partners to support EDI and wellbeing activities
  • Support creative initiatives such as newsletters, human library events, podcasts and exhibitions to highlight diverse voices
  • Arrange meetings and take notes if required
  • Undertake research to support developments in wellbeing and EDI

Person specification:

Recruitment and Outreach Intern

Role:

Support the Schools Liaison, Outreach and Events team in successfully delivering recruitment activities that contribute to the University's overall enrolment targets and enhance the University's visibility with prospective students.

Duties and responsibilities:

Event support:

  • Represent the University at recruitment events such as career fairs, either independently or supporting colleagues
  • Assist with preparation, setup and execution of open days and applicant days
  • Support the coordination of on-campus events including masterclasses and hands-on workshops
  • Help evaluate event effectiveness by collecting and analysing participant feedback

Data management:

  • Maintain accurate records in the CRM system, including prompt handling of enquiries
  • Update contact information for prospective students, schools and college representatives
  • Process on-campus registration data - with attention to detail.
  • Compile and organise event evaluation data to inform future recruitment strategies

Market research and inventory:

  • Conduct competitor research by attending competitor institutions' events (online and in-person)
  • Prepare analytical reports with actionable insights to improve the University's recruitment approaches
  • Manage recruitment materials inventory, ensuring adequate stock levels for all events
  • Organise and maintain marketing materials for efficiency

Internal collaboration.

  • Support internal progression initiatives to encourage current students to continue their education at the University
  • Work cross-functionally with other departments to align recruitment efforts with institutional goals
  • Contribute creative ideas to enhance recruitment strategies and outreach programmes

For this role, you will need to have:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong organisational abilities and attention to detail
  • Proficiency with CRM systems and data management
  • Self-motivation with the ability to work both independently and as part of a team
  • Experience with event coordination (preferred)
  • Knowledge of higher education recruitment processes is a bonus

Visa Compliance Intern

Role:

To support the Visa Compliance team with a variety of administrative tasks.

Duties and responsibilities:

Student enquiries:

  • Respond to letter requests from international students
  • Advise students on their right to work during term-time and holiday periods
  • Help with managing departmental shared inboxes

Interviews:

  • Support the Visa Compliance Officer with arranging Pre-CAS Interviews
  • Process interview data (interview lists/results)
  • Coordinate enquiries between agents and interview provider

Data systems:

  • Update central portal with Visa Compliance comments
  • Complete document checks for errors
  • Work with sensitive data effectively
  • Support any additional data-based activities

Additional:

  • Work collaboratively within the Visa Compliance team, providing necessary support with applicant and student compliance matters.
  • Ensure practice is in line with the requirements of the General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR)
  • Have a flexible approach to work

For this role, you will need to have:

  • Proficiency with MS Office package, particularly MS Excel.

Marketing Intern

Role:

The Marketing Intern will support the marketing team with social media, administration and customer service duties which assist in the recruitment of students onto their sixth form, college and university courses. 

Duties and responsibilities:

Social media duties:

  • Proactively seeking and creating suitable content for our social media platforms (Instagram, Facebook (Meta), X, LinkedIn and TikTok).
  • Responding to comments, messages and interactions on social media in a timely and professional manner
  • Assisting with content creation, including photography, basic video editing and graphic design for social posts
  • Researching trending topics and hashtags relevant to higher education and student recruitment
  • Helping to build our digital content creator community
  • Collaborating with departments across the University to source student success stories and relevant content

Customer service-focused duties:

  • Responding and communicating via emails and calls with fellow staff members, students and stakeholders. Includes answering calls that come through the main marketing line
  • Supporting with event and activity planning i.e. photography sessions and open days
  • Support with monitoring the staff profiles inbox and updating staff profiles on the University College Birmingham website
  • Responding to prospective student queries through the Unibuddy platform

CRM (customer relations management):

  • Ensuring applicant data is up-to-date on the CRM
  • Updating contact databases
  • Responding to customer enquiries or forwarding them to the correct department
  • Adding student data from external sources
  • Checking undelivered email contacts and updating accordingly

General duties:

  • Stock checking marketing materials and keeping them secure and maintained in a clean environment
  • Creating basic designs such as directional signage using Canva (design software)
  • Uploading and maintaining content in Canto (photo library), including consent forms
  • General office admin tasks i.e. physical mail outs and envelope packing

Applicants must: 

  • Have an understanding of GDPR legislation and best practice or a willingness to learn (training to be provided)  
  • Ensure practice is in line with the requirements of the General Data Protection Regulations
  • Commit to upholding the principles of Safeguarding and the PREVENT agenda

For this role, you will need to have:
