Engineering and Construction Taster Days

In addition to our current offering of activities, we have also recently partnered with GMI, a local construction services company, to jointly offer a range of innovative and engaging construction and engineering-focused workshops.

These sessions will explore the different pathways into construction and engineering-based careers, with the help of some practical project work and insightful career advice and qualification discussions.

Like our Campus Experience Days, these workshops will run between 10am-2pm – including a site visit of our very own Sustainable Construction Skills Centre, James Cond, which coincidently is currently being developed by GMI. Visiting schools and colleges will be able to witness first-hand where a career in engineering and construction can take you.

Our joint activities with GMI are suitable for KS4 and KS5 students only. To register your interest, please complete the booking form.

FAQs

How long is an experience day?

Our on-campus experience days usually run from 10am-2pm to leave us enough time to get through the range of activities we plan.

However, this is flexible, and we will work with each school to tailor the day to best suit your requirements.

Is lunch provided?

We do not provide lunches for our campus experience days, but we will always allocate some time for students to eat at either our Summer Row Café or EatSpace area in McIntyre house to ensure they get a full experience of our campus.

Is parking available?

If you are travelling via minibus, we can usually sort a parking space for this. Please note, there are no coach or large bus spaces available at our campuses.

If you require parking, please let us know as soon as possible so that we can work to arrange this for you.

Which year groups are these days tailored to, and is there a maximum number of students I can bring?

Our campus experience days are suitable and tailored to Years 9-13, and our maximum capacity is 50 students per group.

What are we shown during the campus tour?

Our campus tours, headed by our fantastic student ambassadors, will show you a range of the brilliant facilities we have here at University College Birmingham. Dependent on time, it will include a tour of our Summer Row, McIntyre House and Moss House buildings.

If your cohort of students is interested in a particular area, we can also show you a facility specifically related to that course. For example, if the students you bring are interested in working in tourism or aviation, we can show you our state-of-the-art Aviation and Tourism Suite, which contains a mock plane cabin as well as check-in areas for students to use. If there is anything in particular you would like to see, please let us know in advance, and we will try to arrange this.
