Are you looking to boost your management skills for the world of business? Our Team Leader/Supervisor apprenticeship is suitable for employees in a range of roles including supervisors, team leaders, project officers and shift supervisors/managers, enabling you to gain a professional Level 3 qualification while you work.

A team leader/supervisor is a first line management role, with operational responsibilities for managing a team to deliver a clearly defined outcome. You will provide direction, instructions and guidance to ensure the achievement of set goals. Working in the private, public or third sector and in all sizes of organisation, your specific responsibilities will vary but the knowledge, skills and behaviours needed will be the same whatever the role.

Your key responsibilities are likely to include supporting, managing and developing team members, managing projects, planning and monitoring workloads and resources, delivering operational plans, resolving problems, and building relationships internally and externally. By completing this apprenticeship, you will receive a Level 3 Team Leader/Supervisor Certificate (England) and possess the skills and knowledge needed to progress in your business management career.

Entry requirements

For entry to Level 3 apprenticeships, you will be expected to have a relevant Level 2 qualification or 1-2 years of experience working in a business environment role,* plus Level 1 Functional Skills or equivalent in English and Maths.

*Entry requirements for this apprenticeship may be decided by the employer in conjunction with University College Birmingham.

Key information

Teaching and assessment

You will need to complete tasks to build a portfolio demonstrating your knowledge, skills and behaviours.

Teaching takes place one day per month combined with online activities through our learning platform.

End-point assessment

The portfolio contributes to an end-point assessment which comprises four elements:

  • Online, scenario-based knowledge test
  • Competency-based interview
  • Assessment of portfolio evidence
  • CPD log review and professional discussion

Achievement at the end-point assessment confirms whether the standard has been met. If successful, you will be graded by the independent Apprentice Assessment Organisation assessor resulting in a Pass/Merit/Distinction grade.
