With administrators among those playing an essential part, our Business and Administration Apprenticeship will give you the broad range of skills needed to work efficiently and to help increase business productivity.

Suitable for employees in business roles which include administration tasks, our Level 3 apprenticeship enables you to gain a professional qualification and develop your skills and knowledge while you work. Depending on the job role, your tasks will vary greatly and could include preparing notes, producing documents, organising events, setting up and maintaining filing systems, using software packages, monitoring risk and administering budgets. You will be required to work independently and/or as part of a team and will be involved in developing, implementing, maintaining and improving administrative services. You will develop key skills and behaviours to support your own progression towards management responsibilities.

As a business administrator, you will be expected to deliver your responsibilities efficiently and with integrity. The role involves demonstrating strong communication and adopting a proactive approach to developing skills. You will be expected to show initiative, managing priorities and your own time, problem-solving skills, decision-making and the potential for people management responsibilities through mentoring or coaching others.

Entry requirements

  • We will undertake an assessment and skills scan to ensure this qualification is applicable and suitable.
  • You will require GCSE Maths and English at grade 9-4 (grade A*-C). If you do not have the required GCSE grades, you must achieve Functional Skills Level 2 in Maths and English before the end of the qualification.
  • You must be working in a business administration role for a minimum of 30 hours per week.

Note: Entry requirements for this apprenticeship may be decided by the employer in conjunction with University College Birmingham.

Key information

Teaching and assessment

This course incorporates delivery of a new Level 3 Business Administrator Standard. There will be a mix of theory and practical assessments at University College Birmingham and in the workplace. Attendance at University College Birmingham will be agreed in advance, with access to our wide range of facilities to enhance your learning experience.

A portfolio contributes to an end-point assessment which comprises several elements. Achievement at the end-point assessment confirms whether the qualification is complete and you have met the standard at pass, merit or distinction.
