Visas and Immigration

Once you have made your decision to study at University College Birmingham, you will need to make final arrangements, which are likely to include obtaining a visa.

It is important to apply for a visa as soon as possible. The procedure can take some time, especially during the summer months. Each year many students are unable to study in the UK because they do not leave enough time for visa applications.

Post Study Work Visa

UCB has welcomed the announcement by the UK government of a proposal to reinstate the two-year post-study work visa for international graduates from the 2020/21 academic year.

It is understood the new 'Graduate' route will be available to all international students who successfully complete an undergraduate or postgraduate level course at an approved institution, granting a subsequent two-year period to work or find employment in the UK. The proposal is excellent news for our students who will have the opportunity to gain experience and build on their careers in this country after graduating.

Please be aware that this proposal has yet to be confirmed as government policy. UCB will provide further information in due course on how the plans will apply to those enrolling in 2020/21 and those currently on courses as soon as the government confirm the establishment of this route to us.
