Your Welcome Event
What is a welcome event?
A welcome event is a session for new students who have been accepted on to a course. Your welcome event will be specific to the course you have been accepted on and you’ll get all the information you need before you start your course. There may be activities for you to take part in to get an idea of what the course will be like. It’s also a great opportunity to meet the other students who will be joining the course with you.
When are the welcome events held?
Most welcome events are held during the first week in July and usually last for a few hours. However, those for Catering and Bakery courses are held during the school half-term holiday in May.
How will I know when to attend?
We will send you a letter to confirm the date and time of your welcome event. You will need to reply to confirm whether or not you will be attending.
I've already been to an open day – do I still need to attend?
The welcome event is different to an open day. Welcome events are designed to be specific to each course so it’s important that you attend if possible. We also try and give you an idea of what the course and college life will be like, so there may be practical demonstrations or activities which you can get involved in.
Can parents or guests attend?
Unfortunately the amount of people attending means it won’t be possible for you to bring parents or guests with you. Open days are a great opportunity for parents to have a look around our facilities.
What information will I receive?
You will receive an enrolment pack containing your enrolment form, enrolment dates, information on tuition fees, financial assistance, 16-19 bursary scheme, medical and parental consent forms, careers information and order forms for any uniform or equipment you need. You will also be able to speak with someone from our Student Services to discuss any financial assistance with uniform or equipment, travel or childcare.
What if I can't attend?
We hope you will be able to attend your welcome event. If you can’t, you must let us know as soon as possible. Unfortunately, it is not always possible for us to hold additional welcome events so we will send your enrolment pack and any other information by post. Please do try and attend if you can. If you don’t attend the welcome event and don’t let us know you’re not coming we will contact you to check whether you are still interested and send the information to you by post.
What if I attend the welcome event but decide I don't want to do the course?
It’s important that you make the decision that’s right for you. If you decide that the course isn’t for you please let us know as soon as possible. You can apply for an alternative course or we can arrange for you to speak with one of our Careers team if you need some advice.
