Adult Care Worker Apprenticeship (Standard)
- 18 months (one day per month)
The Adult Care Worker Apprenticeship provides an opportunity for you to develop your skills and knowledge in the workplace. It is an integrated programme of knowledge and skills acquisition, developed alongside core behaviours expected of a competent worker operating in a regulated field in the health and social care sector. This apprenticeship will signify recognition of competence in a role and enable progression to higher levels of skill and experience.

The apprenticeship is suitable for employees who work in health and social care services, typically in the following settings; Nursing or residential homes, Domiciliary Care, Clinical healthcare settings, Day centres as:
- Healthcare Assistants
- Personal Assistants
- Healthcare Support Workers
- Support workers
Tasks undertaken by apprentices will depend on the sector in which they are employed.

The apprenticeship involves developing skills, knowledge and behaviours in: respecting and promoting human rights, communication, safeguarding, championing the health and wellbeing of individuals and work colleagues and professional development.
Apprentices undertake the programme of skills, knowledge and behaviours in a suitable care setting and complete the Care Certificate as part of a high-quality induction programme as well as a Diploma in Care Level 2 (England). Apprentices will also need to acquire Level 1 functional skills in English and Maths. Apprentices then undertake a mandatory end-point assessment once the recognised Diploma Functional Skills and Care Certificate have been achieved.
The synoptic End Point Assessment will include two distinct components. Firstly, the completion of a situational judgement test answered through a multiple choice exercise (but not necessarily undertaken as an online or computer-based test) and secondly a professional discussion.
The Level 2 Apprenticeship Adult Care Worker Certificate (England) will be issued on successful completion of all components at pass/merit/distinction grade.
Teaching & assessment
Level 2 Diploma in Care
You will need to complete tasks and acquire a portfolio of evidence through work-based learning and assessment; taught sessions and online delivery. A qualified tutor / assessor will examine the evidence which is then approved by the external verifier (appointed by the examining body). Personal learning and thinking skills and employment rights and responsibilities are embedded in the apprenticeship.

End Point Assessment
The End Point Assessment provides apprentices with the opportunity to showcase evidence of their skills, knowledge and behaviours. All standards are graded by an approved external apprenticeship assessment organisation. The Adult Care Worker Apprenticeship requires a situational judgement test answered through a multiple-choice exercise and a professional discussion.
- You are required to undertake the Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service process and provide the result prior to starting.
- The Care Certificate must be achieved as part of the Apprenticeship Standard, as well as a Diploma in Care Level 2 and Level 1 functional skills in English and Maths.
- You must be at least 18 years old
- Working for at least 30 hours per week in an appropriate role
- Experience of working in the health and social care sector
