UCB lands placement deal with major gym chain
Students on sports courses at UCB stand to benefit from a formal partnership the University has just confirmed with easyGym, the multi-million pound health and fitness chain.
The deal will see 12 work experience placements across easyGym’s Birmingham sites being offered to students on UCB’s Sport and Fitness Studies degrees and Level 3 Sports Studies courses over the 2017-18 academic year. As well as being a great asset on any ambitious graduate or school-leaver’s CV, the placements will also give students a chance to make the most of easyGym’s cutting-edge equipment and training facilities.
“Teaming up with employers like easyGym gives our students a vital opportunity to practice the skills they gain at university in a real-life, specialised working environment,” said David Conway, UCB’s Sports Employability Tutor.
“Staff at easyGym’s Birmingham branches are highly qualified and will provide fantastic experience and knowledge for our placement holders. Any student considering a career within this industry will find a placement at easyGym invaluable – it provides the experience they’ll need to get their foot on the ladder in a very competitive job market. ”
The deal stands to be a big recruitment opportunity for easyGym, especially with regards to their on-going hunt for talented Personal Trainers. Confirming their attendance at career days, fresher’s fairs and beyond, easyGym plans to be involved with the University’s sports employability activities across the year. Paul Grice, the company’s regional manager, credits easyGym’s interest in UCB students down to fantastic first impressions:
“Having previously worked as part of the UCB team, I have seen first-hand the quality of teaching and level of dedication on the University’s sports courses. These standards have been clearly reflected in the performance of the UCB students we have had on placements with easyGym so far,” said Paul.
“I am really excited to have an agreement in place and offer more UCB students for work placement opportunities over this academic year, and am sure that we can help them gain the practical experience which will aid them when seeking employment within the industry in the future.”
Aspiring Personal Trainer and UCB Sports and Fitness Studies student Aleksandra Kalasnikova very much agrees her easyGym placement over the summer has given her a much-needed “insider’s view” of the industry.
“I have really enjoyed my time here so far. I’ve made friends and learned some really important things about making it as a Personal Trainer, like how to sell yourself and build a great client base. These are skills I’ll have for life,” added Aleksandra.
Still thinking about what you might be doing this September? Sound too good an opportunity to miss? You’re in luck. Applications for UCB’s September cohort to Sport and Fitness Studies courses and Level 3 Sports Studies are still open.
