UCB Guild of Students
What is the Guild of Students?
Each student automatically becomes a member of the Guild of Students upon enrolling at UCB. The Guild works in three main areas, these being: Representation – offering representation to UCB students in all matters both internally and externally, on a national scale; Activities – The Guild is responsible for giving its students that true ‘Student Experience’ and runs all things from Freshers' week and events to Sport provision and societies; and finally Information - The Guild is simply there for all UCB students to use for advice and guidance throughout their journey.
So what does the Guild do and how does it work?
Each year the Guild Executive is elected by their fellow students to run The Guild on their behalf. The Guild Executive is made up of one full-time sabbatical officer, seven part-time officers and various voluntary officers, all working to ensure your voice is heard and your time at UCB is everything it should be.

What does/can the Guild do?
The Guild offers a number of services to students at UCB. The most important element of the Guild is the representation of the student body; this can be for general issues that affect the student population as a whole, particular groups of students or even for individual students with specific problems. The Guild offers guidance and advice on many issues regarding college life, social and personal situations. We work very closely with other departments at UCB to ensure that each student receives the correct assistance that they require.
Sports & Societies
The Guild of Students offers a wide range of Sports Clubs and Societies to its Students. The activities offered provide a fantastic platform to socialise and meet new friends whilst becoming actively involved in University life. Sport at UCB is vastly developing each year with our teams becoming even more successful in the BUCS (British Universities and Colleges Sport) leagues.
The Guild also offers a range of societies which students can sign up to and be part of, or, if we do not offer a society in which you are interested, then we welcome students to found new societies. Some of the societies offered were:
- International Students Society
- African Caribbean Society
- Adventure Society
- LGBT Society
The Guild offers a wide range of sporting activities for students to participate in. Not only do we offer recreational and fun sport, but we also offer competitive sport at the highest level through BUCS, British University and Colleges Sport.
There are many different types of sports and societies on offer at UCB from mainstream sports such as:
- Adventure and Water Sports
- Pole Fitness
Whatever you are into, you can enjoy it whilst you are at UCB and if we don’t offer something that you love, then we will do all we can to make sure we do.
The Guild recommends that every student should obtain an NUS card once they have enrolled. NUS Extra is the definitive student discount and lifestyle card, brought to you by the National Union of Students. From just £12, students can access over 120 exclusive discounts all designed to make student life more exciting, memorable and rewarding.
For only £1.99 students can upgrade their NUS Extra card to include the ISIC (International Student Identity Card). This gives students access to over 40,000 discounts and is valid in 120 countries.
A Guild Officer will attend each induction to speak to students about the Guild and inform them about events that will take part in Freshers' week. Students will also have the opportunity to sign up to become a course representative, a committee member or a Guild trustee.
Each year the Guild holds its annual Freshers' Fayre with hundreds of local and national companies attending as well as all of the sports teams, societies and committees. You can pick up loads of freebies, buy UCB clothing and sign up for all the things you want to make your time at UCB the best time of your life.
