I have been a lecturer specialising in patisserie and confectionery since 2004, and I joined University College Birmingham in 2012. Prior to starting my teaching career, I worked as a pastry chef in privately-run hotels and restaurants as well as for a renowned larger hotel chain.
During the course of my teaching experience, I have worked in two further educational institutions in the UK. The majority of my experience has focused on delivering patisserie and confectionery, but I have also taught practical cookery to a variety of levels in another further education college in the Midlands. Additionally, I have experience of managing the curriculum, delivering staff development workshops and of designing curricula, assessments and teaching materials for use on a variety of courses in further education, as well as being a subject learning coach and mentor.
Alongside teaching patisserie and confectionery, I have been module leader for the Specialist Confectionery and Advanced Confectionery and Chocolate modules, as well as Senior Curriculum Leader for Bakery within the College of Food and Hospitality Management. I am now Assistant Dean for Bakery and Patisserie.
