I originally studied Bakery and Confectionery Level 1 and 2 at University College Birmingham, then I progressed to working as a pastry chef for a short time before working as a cake decorator in a bakery.

While working as a cake decorator, I began to teach at night schools. I returned to college gaining a sugar craft, design, sugar flowers course and City and Guilds teaching qualification.

I progressed to teaching cake decorating full-time at Handsworth College/City College and was invited to become an external verifier for City & Guilds. I worked in this role for a number of years before joining University College Birmingham’s bakery team.

I teach cake decorating, design and sugar flowers and have tutor groups. I support students with competition work for Cake International and ABST, in addition to mentoring learners in developing employability skills.
