Prior to my career in education I was employed as a full-time health and beauty therapist, practising all aspects of holistic, beauty and spa therapies. I have worked and trained for many product houses over the years, more recently with the brands Aesthetics, Dermaquest and Environ.
Gaining extensive commercial experience, I have trained many of our students over the years I have been in post. I have progressed from programme manager for Business and Community short courses in Holistic Therapies, implemented, developed and led the BTEC National Diplomas in
Beauty Therapy Sciences, HND Complementary Therapies, FdA/BA Salon Business Management and Spa Management with Hospitality. During my role as Assistant Dean for the School of Sport and Creative Services, I have also reviewed, implemented and managed the development of the FdA/BA Advanced Hairdressing and Salon Management, Beauty Therapy Management, Spa Management and modules across the FdA/BA Specialist Hair and Media Make-up courses.
I work within the Directorate of Teaching and Learning Quality Enhancement, which enables me to work alongside colleagues developing and enhancing our higher education teaching and learning provision across all schools here at UCB. My focus is on tutoring in higher education and advising our staff on pastoral care. Additionally, my main role within the directorate is to work alongside local and national institutes in the capacity of lead quality reviewer for our collaborative provision in a range of foundation degrees. I am delighted to be a part of the future development of this University in sharing good practice, teaching and learning enhancements and continue to teach students here at UCB.

Research interests and scholarly activity
I am a member of the UK Advising and Tutoring organisation and regularly attend conferences around personal tutoring and supporting our HE students. Part of this membership includes attendance to the NACADA (the global community for academic advising) yearly conference to discuss best practice.
From September 2017 to January 2018 I conducted a longitudinal research study on the effects of mindfulness in the workplace at UCB. I have a keen interest in utilising mindfulness, colour therapy, visualisation and alternative therapies for maintaining health and wellbeing.
From 2012 to 2014 I was part of the project team for the EU-funded Health and Well-being in Tourism Destination (WelDest). The goal was to create a development framework to be used by public bodies, DMOs and private companies in tourism destinations, willing to strengthen the elements influencing the wellbeing level of tourists and locals. The framework is supported by educational materials that enable development of the tourism destination towards a more holistic and sustainable health and wellbeing destination.
From 2008 to 2010 I was a project partner (EU-funded) for the Innovations and Learning in Spa Management (ILIS) project. This combined the experience and knowledge of five academic partners (higher education institutions) across the EU and their industry partners involved in all aspects of spa management. The overall aim was to carry out primary research within the spa industry and explore consumer motivations. From these outputs the project team designed and implemented four HE management modules in related disciplines. These modules were developed for online study across the EU.
I have extensive experience in working on validation panels with external institutes advising on best practice in HE curriculum delivery.
