Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA), Chartered Management Institute Companion (CCMI) and Mentor for the 30% Club.
I have over 15 years of teaching experience in the Higher Education sector and am currently the Dean of the Business School at University College Birmingham (UCB). My academic career commenced with my appointment as a Business & Marketing Lecturer in 1999, I progressed to middle management in 2012 as Associate Dean of the Business School and in 2015, later became the Dean of School. In addition to overseeing the strategic management of the Business School at UCB, I am also a member of the Curriculum Quality Committee and Professional Development Committee.
My previous appointments have included Retail Manager for a leading supermarket in the UK and International Marketing Manager for a multinational confectionary organisation where I was based in the south of France for two years. The move into teaching and the Higher Education sector came as a result of wanting to combine my academic knowledge with my industry experience and as such I successfully completed a Postgraduate Certificate in Higher Education. I completed my BSc. (Hons) in International Business Management (with French), and MSc. specialising in Marketing Management, at Aston University. I am a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and a Companion of the Chartered Management Institute. Dilshad was recently appointed as the Regional Chair (West Midlands Board) for the Chartered Management Institute and is also fluent in several languages.
Being the only female Asian Dean of a Business School in the country, my most recent research interests have focused on the diversity in leadership and management across the Higher Education sector. I have delivered several keynote presentations both locally and nationally advocating the benefits of a diverse leadership and management team. I am a mentor for the 30% Club and continue to engage with audiences across a variety of sectors in my endeavours to encourage more females, especially from minority ethnic backgrounds, attaining senior leadership roles.
I lecture in a variety of final year undergraduate and postgraduate modules in Marketing which include, Brand Management, Strategic Marketing Management, International Marketing, Advertising & Media Management, Digital & Social Media Marketing, Marketing Planning & Operations and Strategic Brand Management.
