I originally studied in management while employed by several local authorities to manage sport and leisure facilities. In 1992, I joined DC Leisure Management Ltd to manage the operation of a number of large sports and leisure centres on behalf of local authorities in the Midlands and Southern England. The roles were to set strategy and operate to a business plan with full profit and loss responsibility for facilities and service with over £2million turnover and 150 or more staff. This work also included the completion of a number of capital projects. I subsequently became a business development manager operating across the UK and overseas working towards securing further management contracts for the company on the basis of PPP (Public, Private, and Partnership) or PFI (Private Finance Initiative).
After 19 years in sports and leisure management I joined University College Birmingham in 2004. I specialise in sports management, coaching, and sports development and am currently engaged in developing academic quality enhancement procedure and process for programmes at undergraduate and postgraduate level across UCB. I’m a panel member of the UCB Curriculum & Quality and Academic Regulations Committees. I am also a member of the Chartered Institute for the Management of Sport and Physical Activity, and a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.
