You're hired! Marketing students present patent-worthy business plans

Read time: approx 1 mins

A group of marketing students have brought their business ideas to life with a highly ambitious end of year showcase.

Organised by Level 3 Business students, the event saw budding entrepreneurs from across UCB’s Business School present projects covering everything from timesaving apps to specialised services.

While the majority of students had taken a semester to perfect their projects, one particular student’s end-of-year presentation had been far longer in the making.

Marketing with Events student Nisa-Emaan Hussain began her degree at UCB in 2007. Ten years later she is at this years’ marketing showcase presenting Savvy Global, a translation and interpreting service for tourists around the world.

“I was daunted by the idea of returning to UCB after so long, but staff made it so easy for me,” said Nisa, who is set to progress to an MSc in Construction Project Management later this year.  “Sian Williams, my tutor for this module, was especially incredible and made the transition back to study so easy. Now I’m finally finishing, I’m so excited for what the future holds.”

While Nisa may have had a decade to refine her brief, it was the experience of fellow international students that inspired Digital Marketing student Jared Artiles to create HOMESICK – an app designed to help homesick Erasmus students to retrieve some of their favourite items from home.

Inspired by ‘collaborative consumption’ businesses such as Airbnb and Uber, Jared noted a gap in the market for a personalised courier service catering for ever-increasing numbers of students choosing to take a year or term abroad.

As well as being an important opportunity to finesse students’ presentation skills, all projects at the showcase will be assessed as part of their marketing module. Find out more about courses on offer within The Business School at UCB.
