UCB hosts Gold Service Scholarship

The first of two regional finals of a new competition called The Gold Service Scholarship is taking place at University College Birmingham today, Friday 11 January.        

Eleven competitors are battling for a place in the final and flying the flag for the Midlands is Pawel Skrzypinski, Fine Dining Assistant Manager from Hogarth’s Hotel, Dorridge.        

Organised by a group of leading hospitality industry professionals and backed by UK food service provider, Baxter Storey, the Scholarship is a new and bold initiative designed to inspire a new generation of young people to make a professional career out of front of house hospitality.  It is aimed at those working in any aspect of restaurant service, including hotels, restaurants, contract catering, licensed hospitality and clubs, who is between the ages of 22-30 years old.        

Alongside interviews and tests, the competitors will be performing tasks including mixing a cocktail, matching food and wine, serving Afternoon Tea and napkin folding.        

Following the second regional final in London next week, the judges will choose 6 competitors from across both heats to go on to the Final in London next month and the overall winner will receive a year of mentoring, educational training, travel and work experience delivered personally by the best in the business.        

Former University College Birmingham student, Jenna Beech, who is working as an Assistant Manager at the University of Birmingham, has also been selected as a regional finalist and she will be taking part in the London regional final on Tuesday 15 January.
