Theatrical Make-up become style gurus

Read time: approx 1 mins

Theatrical Make-up students held a glamorous fashion show at The Maltings to showcase their talents for fashion and styling models.

The Level 3 students had to prepare models for Avant Garde, Fantasy, Supernatural/Mystical, and Period categories.

The fashion shows are popular with the students, who not only get the chance to display their creative flair and apply styling techniques, but also learn how to work quickly and efficiently in a fast-paced real-life environment.

Academic Support Workers worked with students in theory and practical sessions to help them clarify design plans and practise the looks they were aiming for. Support worker Pat Jones went over to the dark side when she modelled as Star Wars bad-guy Darth Maul from the Phantom Menace.

On the night, it was time for models to strut their stuff on the catwalk and bring life to the students’ designs. The students then had just 40 minutes to remove the make-up and re-apply it, along with a new costume, to prepare the model for a movie theme.

Pat said: “The show was a resounding success, and we received some fantastic feedback from those who attended. The students worked hard preparing and styling their models. We certainly turned some heads on Broad Street as we walked to the sports hall!”
