Students turn Medical Aircrew into belles of the ball

Read time: approx 1 mins

UCB students have stepped in as fairy godmothers for Midlands Air Ambulance’s aircrew by giving them a glamorous makeover in order to promote their charity ball.

FdA Specialist Hair & Media Make-up students Fatou Jagne and Katie Fry sprinkled some stardust on five members of the medical aircrew for Midlands Air Ambulance in preparation for the charity’s annual Recognition Awards and Charity Ball.

First-year student Fatou said: “This was my first placement as a UCB student, and I was honoured to be a part of such a good cause – the ladies are brave and inspirational. We used make-up to enhance their natural beauty, ready for the camera.

“The ladies were excited about wearing false eyelashes for the first time and Katie and I also gave them some make-up tips to try at home. The day was very rewarding and I look forwards to future placements with UCB.”

The event celebrates Midlands’s Air Ambulance Charity’s unsung heroes, including supportive fundraisers, brave airlift patients and dedicated volunteers. It is hosted every year to help raise vital funds for the life-saving service.

Katie, a second-year student, said: "It was a great experience to do the hair and makeup for the paramedics and one of the doctors at Midlands Air Ambulance service – they are amazing women. They got dressed up and stood in front of the helicopter to advertise the charity ball that they hold to raise money for the air ambulance.

“We had to do the photo shoot quickly in case the helicopter was needed for a job, which it was, but thankfully we had got it all done by then! It was great to be part of a charity that helps to save so many lives."
