Postgraduate students are consultants for the Lanzarote Tourist Board

Postgraduate Tourism students studying MA Tourism Destination Management and MA International Tourism Business Administration travelled to Lanzarote as part of their Live Project module.
As consultant teams, the students researched ‘pop-up’ tourism concepts for tourism destinations and have been tasked with applying project management techniques to come up with new ideas that can be used by the Lanzarote Tourist Board.
As part of their project, students presented their ideas to a group of tourism representatives at the Escuela Universitaria de Turismo de Lanzarote, which is part of the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. They also attended presentations from tourism officials working in the public and private sectors.
Louise Southall, MA International Tourism Business Administration student, said: “The Lanzarote trip was so much fun. We had time to complete lots of primary research, which is essential for completion of the Live Project module. We also made new friendships, as residential visits really bring people together.”
Not only did this trip enable students to work as tourism consultants and pitch their ideas directly to overseas industry professionals, they also had a fantastic opportunity to network with them afterwards. This enabled them to develop their own links within the sector and maintain the growing relationship between UCB and the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.
Students also had the opportunity to visit Fuerteventura during their visit as part of their research into developing successful transferable pop-up tourism concepts.
