Good luck to the Toque d'Or team!!

On Saturday 19 June, at the BBC Good Food Show, the UCB Nestle Toque d’Or team were put through their paces as they took part in the finals of a prestigious hospitality competition.

The team of three chefs and two food service students have been working hard over the last couple of months preparing for the final.

For one of the challenges to get to the finals, the team had to come up with a dream concept of their own restaurant, which on Saturday became a reality as part of the BBC Good Food Summer Show at the NEC, Birmingham.

The team’s chosen theme restaurant was called The Quarter, drawing on the concept of the city's Jewellery Quarter and on the day with assistance from NEC staff, produced and served 100 covers at the show in the Nestle Toque D'Or restaurant.

Their three course menu selection started with a slow cooked organic Shetland salmon followed by roast loin of Cornish lamb and finished with a delicious caramel parfait with Espresso ice cream. 

Michelin star chef, Andreas Antona has offered great support mentoring the team, along with guidance from chef lecturer, John Penn and food service lecturers, Amy Holier and Andrew Bisconti.

The results will be known on July 16th so fingers crossed until then!

A different college competes each day at the Food Show with the results announced in July. Prizes on offer include cash, an overseas study trip and catering equipment for the college.
