Model student Kayleigh Parrott-Goldthorp is flying high after being officially recognised at a leading travel and tourism association’s annual awards, celebrating the UK’s very highest calibre students in the field.

Kayleigh, who achieved a first in all her degree modules and successfully undertook work placements with the likes of Thomas Cook and Birmingham Airport, was presented with the Institute of Travel & Tourism’s Centre of Excellence Student of the Year Award by Lord Snape of Wednesbury at the ITT’s summer party on the banks of the River Thames.

Nominations for the award were limited to institutions with official ‘Centre of Excellence’ status from the ITT with the winner expected to excel in all areas of their work.

This is the second time a UCB student has stolen the title, and Kayleigh really stepped up to the plate. Following on from her BA (Hons) in International Tourism Business Management, Kayleigh is now looking to pursue a career as a lecturer in further education.

She will begin her PGCE in Post-Compulsory education this year and has plans to complete a postgraduate qualification in tourism at UCB in the near future.

Michelle Callanan, Assistant Dean for Tourism and Aviation at UCB, said Kayleigh – who received a private tour of the Houses of Parliament prior to the awards – thoroughly deserved the win.

“Her passion and energy in all aspects of her work is clear and I am confident she will leave a positive mark as an FE lecturer,” she said.
