I studied Philosophy and Politics at the University of York before moving abroad to teach English as a foreign language in 2001. I taught English in Japan and China before returning to the UK in 2008. After two years teaching English to imams (Muslim religious leaders), I joined University College Birmingham in 2010. I speak Japanese and basic Chinese, and I am learning Spanish and Dutch. I specialise in English for Academic Purposes and use my experiences to inform my Cultural Studies classes. I am a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.
