The Guild of Students
If you are a student at UCB, then you are automatically a member of the Guild of Students. The Guild is here to give students a voice within UCB on the issues that affect them the most. We work with the University to help deliver the best experience possible for each student.
Advice and support
The Guild is here to listen, be your voice and lobby for change. We offer guidance and support on student life and personal issues – and if the Guild can’t help, we’ll put you in touch with someone who can.
If there is something worrying you, we will do our best to help. Here are some of the issues that are often on students’ minds:
- Leaving UCB
- Crime and safety
- Course Queries
If you would like to speak to the Guild regarding any issues please visit us on the ground floor.
Sports and societies
A wide variety of sports and societies are available to you when you become a student at UCB.
We are always looking for students to help out with Guild activities. Get involved and volunteer your time and effort and showcase your skills. This will help to enhance your CV and give you valuable experience in areas such as event planning, marketing and sport organisation.
If you would like to get involved please contact your Guild Exec Team on firstname.lastname@example.org or drop in and see us on the ground floor (opposite the Resource Centre).
The Guild is run by our students – for our students. Our goal is to improve the student experience for everyone attending UCB, including a diary packed with sports activities and social events.
One of the most anticipated events of the year, Freshers’ Week, is a big part of welcoming new students to the University. There are events every day, ranging from freshers’ fair to day-time activities where you can meet and get to know other new students, through to our week-long nights out, held at different venues to give students a taste of Birmingham’s buzzing nightlife.
Sport and Team UCB are a huge part of the Guild, with more than 250 people registered for sports societies. With such a great uptake of students competing in BUCS leagues, we strive to provide an equally exciting social calendar. Varsity, our biggest sporting event of the academic calendar, versus Team Wolves is a hugely anticipated event amongst our sports students, and definitely not one to miss. Our annual sports tour, organised by Ilovetour, gives students the opportunity to travel to Croatia or Salou for a week-long sports holiday. It is a week most students never forget.
University would not be the same without its traditions and UCB is no different. We hold the annual Cakes Cup Weekender, where graduates are welcomed back to relive their student days for one weekend. It is a great way to catch up with friends.
The last major event of the year is the Summer Ball where students are invited to put on their best fitting dresses and sharpest suits to cap the year off with a night of awards, guest speakers and a massive after-party. It’s the perfect summer send off.
