Student Guild
By enrolling on a course at University College Birmingham you will automatically become a member of the UCB Guild of Students (Student's Union) which is run by an Executive Committee consisting of seven current students and one sabbatical officer. This committee was elected solely by their fellow students at the end of last year to help you get the most out of your time at University College Birmingham.
The principal aims of the Guild are:
-
To Represent the student body within University College Birmingham.
-
To provide guidance and advice to students
-
To organise an ongoing programme of social and sporting activities to ensure that students get the best from their time at University College Birmingham
The Guild speaks on behalf of students concerning a range of issues. This can either be for groups of students or individual students with specific issues. They are there to listen, be your voice and lobby for change or improvements.
The Guild of Students offers guidance and advice on many issues regarding not only college life but also social and personal situations. If they can't help, they will certainly point you in the right direction of someone who can.
Further Education students have their own elected officer - read a message from the current Further Education officer.
Certainly a high profile element of The Guild's activities is the organisation of a full programme of events and activities throughout the academic year.
BarOne is the student Bar situated at The Maltings Halls of residence and is at the hub of student life. BarOne was opened in November 2004 at a cost of 1.8 million pounds and is a facility The Guild is very proud of. The bar is open to all students of UCB aged 18 and over. It is a great place to hang out, meet your friends and make new friends as well. Alongside a mix of late-night events and daytime entertainment, the bar also serves a range of great food and drinks, you'll also find Wireless Internet, Nintendo Wii's and Pool tables for your enjoyment.
The Maltings Sports Hall is operated by the Gym and Sports Hall Manager in Richmond House. The Guild works very closely with the Sports Hall Manager to ensure all Guild activities have priority within the timetable. The majority of the Guild's Sports Clubs and Societies use the hall for training and matches. There are also spaces available for students to book to use the hall at weekends.
