National Scholarship Programme and UCB Fee Waivers

The following tuition fee waivers are available to students who have accepted a place on a full-time programme at UCB starting in September 2012 and are liable to pay the full tuition fee of £7,800, or £3,900 in the case of students enrolling on a 'fast track' course.

  • National Scholarship Programme (NSP) Fee Waiver - £3,000 off 1st year fees.

Students who are awarded the NSP Fee Waiver will be charged tuition fees of £4,800 in 2012/13. To qualify you must have a residual household income of £16,000 or less, and be eligible to receive funding from Student Finance England. As well as £3,000 off your 1st year tuition fee, if your financial circumstances do not change, you will receive a UCB Basic Fee Waiver of £1,000 for each subsequent year of your undergraduate programme for which you are liable to pay the full tuition fee. UCB have 98 NSP Fee Waivers to award for the 2012/13 academic year, the awards will be allocated on a first-come first-served basis.  To be eligible you must not have previously studied at a Higher Education level.

  • UCB Standard Tuition Fee Waiver - £1,000 off your fees for each year of your programme

To qualify for the UCB Standard Tuition Fee Waiver you must have a residual household income of £16,000 or less, be eligible to receive funding from Student Finance England and not be in receipt of the NSP Fee Waiver.  You will be entitled to £1,000 off your 1st year fee, therefore your tuition fee for 2012/13 will be £6,800. Assuming your financial circumstances do not change, you will receive the £1,000 fee waiver for each subsequent year of your undergraduate programme for which you are liable to pay the full tuition fee.

  • UCB Further Education (FE) to Higher Education (HE) Progression Fee Waiver - £1,000 off 1st year fees

If you have completed a full-time Further Education programme at UCB within the last 12 months, you will be entitled to £1,000 off your 1st year tuition fee. This discount is not dependent on household income and can be awarded in addition to the NSP/UCB Standard Tuition Fee Waiver. If you are awarded the NSP Fee Waiver and meet the criteria for the FE Progression Fee Waiver your tuition fee for 2012/13 will be £3,800. If you are awarded the UCB Standard Tuition Fee Waiver and meet the criteria for the FE to HE Progression Fee Waiver your tuition fees for 2012/13 will be £5,800.

  • Who is NOT eligible for the above tuition fee waivers

 Part-time students

Students who are studying an equivalent or lower level qualification than one they have already achieved.

 Postgraduate students, including PGCE

Students ordinarily resident outside of England (except UCB FE to HE Progression Fee Waiver)

Students who are not liable to pay the full tuition fee

  • How to apply

Your eligibility for the NSP Fee Waiver and UCB Standard Tuition Fee Waiver will be assessed as part of your application to Student Finance England (SFE). There is no separate application form.

Awards will be made to students upon confirmation of your residual household income, it is therefore essential that you submit an income assessed application to SFE and submit all evidence requested.   You must also ensure that you and your parents do not tick the box on your application that removes consent to share, as this would prevent UCB from awarding you a tuition fee waiver.

UCB only has 98 NSP Fee Waivers to award; given the limited number it is vital that you submit your application form to SFE as early as possible. You can apply online to SFE to apply now. Visit the SFE website at www.direct.gov.uk/studentfinance.

Please be aware that even if you meet the eligibility criteria for the NSP Fee Waiver this does not guarantee you will be successful. Awards will be made on a first-come first-served basis, based on the date SFE issue you with your finalised assessment. If you are not one of the first eligible 98 to receive a finalised assessment from the SFE, you will however automatically be assessed for the UCB Standard Tuition Fee Waiver.

The application process will remain open until the deadline date set by SFE. Successful applicants will be notified in writing of their Fee Waiver award from July 2012.
