Student Profile - Savoy Mentors
Three University College Birmingham, Hospitality and Business Management students have been assigned Mentors from the prestigious Savoy Society for the next three years.
The scheme in its first year saw Placement Manager Tracy Haupt nominate 6 students who she felt would benefit from the support that this scheme would offer. Two of these students were Jenna Beech, Petrina Johnson and Kayleigh Scott who had recently returned from successful placements, Jenna at the University of Birmingham, Petrina at The Marriott Hotel in Chicago and Kayleigh at Inchydoney Island Lodge and Spa, County Cork, Ireland.
Jenna and Petrina were invited to an assessment day, held at The Waldorf Hotel in London and run by Springboard UK for The Savoy Society, whilst there they were split into teams with other nominees and sent out into London on an Apprentice style task, then over lunch the 9 possible Mentors spent time talking to each candidate finding about their interests and career aspirations. Mentors were looking for people they could spend at least the next three years working with so wanted to make sure that there was a good match.
The following day Jenna and Petrina were thrilled to find out they had been chosen and there was good news for Kayleigh who had been forced to miss the assessment day; they were so impressed by her nomination that she was invited along for an interview and offered a mentor on the spot.
